Students are charged additional fees based on programs of study and academic courses. Programs not listed on this page may not have additional fees.

VCU reserves the right to revise or alter all fees and regulations pertaining to student fees and fee-collection procedures at any time.

Arts major tuition differential (per semester)

A tuition differential fee charged to all School of the Arts majors. Revenues are allocated to the individual departments for the cost of materials, services and equipment. Undergraduate students who enroll in more than 18 credit hours are assessed a per-credit-hour arts overload tuition differential at the standard per-credit-hour rate. Graduate students who enroll in more than 15 credit hours are charged the per-credit-hour arts overload tuition differential at the graduate rate.

Honors College fee: A fee assessed to any student enrolled in the Honors College to help finance student enhancements and to support Honors lecture series - $50 per semester.

Online course fee: A fee charged for undergraduate and graduate online courses. The fee is for operational and personnel support to develop and maintain online courses - $55 per credit hour.

As of July 1, 2016, the U.S. Department of Education has regulated that institutions may not require a student to use Title IV financial aid funds to purchase books or supplies charged in excess of standard tuition and fees. The majority of the tuition surcharges and fees assessed by VCU with a component for books and supplies meets the requirements for using Title IV funds. Listed below are courses with excess fees that do not meet that requirement.

Students enrolled in one of these programs who do not want the university to pay for the books or supplies with Title IV funds should complete the course/program fee waiver form and submit it to Student Accounting before the end of the add/drop period.
